LegisCheck.eu review

Checks websites and online shops against EU legal duties; the basic check is free, and one-off technical audits start at €79.

In this article

LegisCheck.eu compares what a public website or online shop actually does with what EU law requires of it. The scope spans ePrivacy consent and cookies, GDPR information duties, provider information under the e-Commerce Directive, consumer-law duties of online shops and transport security. Its free basic check (EU-LC-F0) visits the home page and as many as four legal subpages the way a visitor on a mobile phone would, logs cookies and third-party requests before and after “Reject” is clicked, and gives the legal basis for every result. Sites with no findings get a certificate that can be verified for a year. Two one-off technical audits cost €79 and €199 excluding VAT.

Why it is our Editor’s choice: it has the highest overall score in this comparison, 8.3/10; it scores highest on breadth of legal checks and joint-highest on quality of evidence and time to first result; it checks 6 of the 7 legal areas we track, more than any other service in this review; it ties every finding to a legal source in a catalogue of 896 EU obligations, the widest legal coverage in this comparison; and its basic check is free and needs no registration.

01In detail

The service is a checker rather than a consent tool. It approaches a site as a visitor would and measures it against a catalogue of 896 website-relevant obligations under EU law, each linked to its legal source. The free basic check, level EU-LC-F0 (TA-S · Automated Screening), works without registration. It loads the home page in a clean browser profile, from an EU address and with an ordinary Chrome-on-Android identity, then reads up to four subpages: the privacy notice, the imprint or contact page, the terms, and a product or withdrawal page. Consent is tested three times: before any interaction, after “Reject”, and once more with the banner reopened. Along the way it logs cookies, local storage and third-party requests, compares the computed styles of the Accept and Reject buttons, and verifies that tracking stops once the visitor refuses.

The check reaches well beyond cookies. It reads the privacy notice for the controller, legal basis, retention, rights and the right to complain to a supervisory authority; looks for provider information under Article 5 of Directive 2000/31/EC; tests e-shop duties under the Consumer Rights Directive, such as withdrawal information and the model form; applies the prior-lowest-price rule for discounts; confirms HTTPS and certificate validity; and covers selected points of the Digital Services Act and the AI Act. Basic accessibility signals are noted for information only. National legal acts are applied by region, and 17 countries are checked.

Uncertain results are handled conservatively. Until a check has reached at least 95% precision across two tuning rounds, it only reports a “possible shortcoming”. Every result states that it is an automated technical check at a stated time, not a legal assessment. When nothing is found, the site receives a “Certificate of a check against EU law requirements” carrying the level code, the methodology version and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the check record; a QR code lets anyone verify it for one year, and an embeddable badge is provided.

There are two paid levels, both one-off and delivered as HTML and PDF reports: technical audit EU-LC-T1 (TA-G · General Obligations) at €79 excluding VAT, and EU-LC-T2 (TA-GS · General + Sector Obligations) at €199 excluding VAT, which adds sector rules and accessibility. The interface is in English and Slovak. LegisCheck has no consent banner of its own and no continuous monitoring; generators for privacy policies and terms are planned but not yet available.

No other service here checks as many EU website obligations in one free run, and each result points to its legal source; that is why it leads on our criteria.

03What the check gives you

Peace of mind that rests on evidence. Instead of wondering whether your website still meets its legal duties, you see it measured against 896 EU obligations, each with its source, and you know where it stands on the day of the check.

Problems you did not know you had. The check is built to find what a busy team overlooks: a tracker that fires before consent, a missing point in the privacy notice, a withdrawal form that is not where it should be. Every finding comes with guidance that takes you through the fix step by step.

A brief for your developer, and proof when the work is done. The technical audits come as an HTML and PDF report that a developer can work through item by item. Once no findings remain, the site receives a certificate of the check that anyone can verify for a year.

06Pros and cons

What we like

  • The free basic check needs no account and goes past cookies to privacy-notice content, provider information, e-shop consumer duties, price-reduction rules and HTTPS
  • Consent is tested before any interaction, after “Reject” and with the banner reopened, and the Accept and Reject buttons are compared by their computed styles
  • Every check is linked to its legal source in a catalogue of 896 website-relevant EU obligations
  • Shortcomings are reported only once a check has reached at least 95% precision over two tuning rounds; anything less certain is marked “possible shortcoming”
  • Prices are stated in advance: the basic check is free, and the technical audits cost €79 and €199 excluding VAT, one-off, without a subscription
  • The certificate of a check carries the level code, the methodology version and a SHA-256 fingerprint, and can be verified by QR code for one year

What could be better

  • It comes without a consent banner (CMP) of its own
  • Generators for privacy policies and terms are planned, but you cannot use them yet
  • Nothing is monitored continuously, and a new basic check can be run at most once in 24 hours
  • The interface is only in English and Slovak, and the free check records accessibility only at a basic, informational level

07Verdict

Our score: 8.3/10Excellent

No other service here checks as many EU website obligations in one free run, and each result points to its legal source; that is why it leads on our criteria. Bear in mind that it only checks: the consent banner and the policy texts must come from another tool.

Best for: Owners of EU websites and online shops looking for a free first check, with evidence, that covers several areas of EU law rather than cookies alone.
