consentmanager review

Consent platform from Sweden, sold from Germany and France, with crawls several times a day, EU-only storage and Legal Shield.

In this article

consentmanager comes from consentmanager AB in Västerås, Sweden, and is sold through sister companies in Germany and France; it was founded in 2018 and became part of the iubenda group in 2022. On paid plans its crawler checks a site for cookies, pixels and vendors several times a day and raises an alert when something new turns up. Starter, at €23 a month for 100,000 page views, bundles a privacy policy generator and Legal Shield, which pairs scans with a partner lawyer and covers legal costs as set out in its annex in five countries. A free plan for one site and 3,000 page views appears on plugin pages, not on the main pricing page.

01In detail

The company was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 2018. consentmanager AB owns the product, while consentmanager GmbH in Hamburg and consentmanager SAS in Paris sell it. It has belonged to the iubenda group since 2022. As consent platforms go, it puts unusual weight on monitoring.

Its crawler searches for cookies, tracking pixels, tags and vendors with the help of a database of more than three million cookies and 2,500 vendors. Every paid plan crawls more than once a day (three times on Starter, ten on Essential) and alerts the customer to new cookies or vendors. Consent decisions are recorded with timestamp, scope and banner version, kept for 13 months on Starter and Essential or 36 months on Enterprise, and exportable as CSV or PDF. According to the vendor, all data stays in the EU. consentmanager is a Google Gold CMP partner and an IAB TCF v2.3 validated CMP with CMP ID 31.

Starter and higher plans include Legal Shield at no extra charge: regular scans point out potential problems, a partner lawyer deals with eligible claims, and legal costs are covered according to the Legal Shield annex in Germany, Italy, Spain, France and the UK. Paid plans also include a privacy policy generator, and an accessibility widget with a scanner is available separately from €15 a month. Imprints and e-shop duties are not checked.

Plans are priced by page views. Starter is €23 a month for 100,000 page views, with €0.10 for each further 1,000; Essential is €59 for one million page views and adds IAB TCF and A/B testing; Enterprise is priced individually on a 12-month contract. The number of banner languages is one on Starter, five on Essential and 35+ on Enterprise. Whether prices include VAT is not stated on the pricing page. A free plan (€0, 3,000 page views, one site) is shown only on plugin pages, while the pricing page offers a 14-day trial.

Few consent platforms crawl as often as consentmanager, and EU-only storage plus Legal Shield from the first paid plan set it apart.

05Pros and cons

What we like

  • Even the cheapest paid plan crawls several times a day (three on Starter) and alerts you to new cookies and vendors
  • Legal Shield comes with Starter: a partner lawyer and cost cover under its annex in Germany, Italy, Spain, France and the UK
  • Data is stated to be stored only in the EU, on every plan
  • Google Gold CMP partner and IAB TCF v2.3 validated (CMP ID 31)
  • An accessibility widget and scanner can be added separately from €15 a month

What could be better

  • One banner language on Starter and five on Essential; 35+ only with Enterprise
  • The free plan (3,000 page views, one site) is missing from the main pricing page
  • The pricing page says nothing about VAT, and Starter charges €0.10 per 1,000 extra page views
  • Starter and Essential keep consent records for 13 months
  • Using the free cookie scanner requires registering

06Verdict

Our score: 6.3/10Good

Few consent platforms crawl as often as consentmanager, and EU-only storage plus Legal Shield from the first paid plan set it apart. Like its peers, though, it checks cookies and vendors rather than legal texts or e-shop duties, and its language limits and unclear VAT treatment reduce its value for small multilingual sites.

Best for: Companies that want cookie monitoring several times a day, data kept in the EU and some cover for legal costs, all packaged with the banner.
